My eID Application: Born in the Cayman Islands After 26 March 1977, or Born Outside the Cayman Islands

Overview

If you applied for the Cayman Islands Identification Card: My eID and indicated that you are Caymanian, we may need additional information before we can issue your card with immigration status shown as Caymanian.

We note you have indicated you are Caymanian. However, your immigration status in WORC’s systems is not currently reflecting that you have been formally acknowledged or confirmed as a Caymanian.

For clarity, we are not questioning your status as a Caymanian. A record not reflecting a person who is Caymanian can occur for a variety of reasons. However, WORC is the designated authority responsible for formally confirming a person’s Caymanian status. We therefore need their records updated before we can provide a My eID card stating the holder’s immigration status as Caymanian.

What this means for your My eID application

At this stage, we are unable to issue your My eID card with immigration status shown as Caymanian until WORC’s records are updated.

If you have previously received documentation, or a stamp in your passport, from WORC, the former Immigration Department or other Government Official stating that you are Caymanian, please send us a copy so we can seek WORC’s assistance in having your record updated.

What we would like you to do

1. If you have previously been confirmed as Caymanian by WORC, the former Immigration Department or other Government Official

Please check whether you have any of the following:

  • a letter or other document from WORC, the former Immigration Department or other Government Official confirming that you are Caymanian

  • a passport stamp confirming that you are Caymanian

If you have this documentation, please email a copy to myeid@egov.ky and we will seek WORC’s assistance in having your record updated. Alternatively you can contact WORC directly to have your record updated.

2. If you have not previously been confirmed as Caymanian

Option 1: Obtain acknowledgement from WORC

Recommended

This is the recommended option because it will allow your My eID card to show immigration status as Caymanian.

If you wish to do this first, please complete the WORC acknowledgement or confirmation process. We can hold your My eID application while you do this.

The form to complete is:

C27 - Right to be Caymanian by Right, by Entitlement, or Continuation

This form is available on the WORC forms page.

Once you have completed the process, please email myeid@egov.ky to let us know.

Option 2: Proceed without immigration status shown on the card

Not recommended

Although this option is available, it is not recommended.

If you choose to proceed now, we can continue processing your My eID application and issue your card without immigration status shown. In this case, the immigration status field on the card will be displayed as: "---"

The card would still provide all other identity and digital features, including:

  • proof of identity

  • ability to authenticate online using eServices

  • ability to sign documents with a qualified digital signature

If WORC updates your immigration status at a later date, your My Info portal will update automatically. At that time, you may apply to have your My eID card reissued.

Contact WORC for questions on your immigration status

If you have any questions, you may contact WORC directly to seek further information on being confirmed or acknowledged as a Caymanian:

Why this is needed

WORC is the authority responsible for formally confirming Caymanian status for the purpose of recording immigration status. Until WORC’s records are updated, we cannot issue a My eID card showing immigration status as Caymanian.

Where to send documents or updates

Please email myeid@egov.ky.

To help us process your case, please include:

  • your full name

  • your My eID application reference number

  • a short note explaining whether you want to wait for WORC acknowledgement or proceed now without immigration status shown on the card
