My eID Application: Born in the Cayman Islands On or Before 26 March 1977

Overview

If you applied for the Cayman Islands Identification Card: My eID and indicated that you are Caymanian, we may need additional information before we can issue your card with immigration status shown as Caymanian.

We note you have indicated that you were born in the Cayman Islands on or before 26th March 1977. Once the recently passed legislation is commenced, WORC will be updating its records, where it has sufficient information to identify the persons born in the Cayman Islands on or before 26th March 1977 to indicate they are Caymanian as of right. However, your immigration status records in the WORC system have not yet been updated to reflect this.

For clarity, we are not questioning your status as a Caymanian. A record not reflecting a person who is Caymanian under this provision can occur for a variety of reasons. However, WORC is the designated authority responsible for formally confirming a person’s Caymanian status. We therefore need their records updated before we can provide a My eID card stating the holder’s immigration status as Caymanian.

What this means for your My eID application

At this stage, we are unable to issue your My eID card with immigration status shown as Caymanian until WORC’s records are updated.

If you have previously received documentation, or a stamp in your passport, from WORC, the former Immigration Department or other Government Official stating that you are Caymanian, please send us a copy so we can seek WORC’s assistance in having your record updated.

What we would like you to do

1. Check whether you already have proof from WORC

Please check whether you have any of the following:

  • a letter or other document from WORC, the former Immigration Department or other Government Official confirming that you are Caymanian

  • a passport stamp confirming that you are Caymanian

If you have this documentation, please email a copy to myeid@egov.ky.

2. Provide name change documents, if applicable

If your current name is different from the name on your birth certificate, please also provide documents supporting the name change.

Examples include:

  • marriage certificate

  • deed poll

  • other legal name change document

This is important because a name mismatch may prevent WORC from being able to locate your birth record to confirm your birth in the Cayman Islands.

3. Tell us how you would like to proceed with your card

Please email myeid@egov.ky to let us know whether you would like to:

  • wait while you pursue confirmation or acknowledgement from WORC or until WORC have completed their update once the law has commenced, so your card can be issued with immigration status shown as Caymanian; or

  • proceed now without immigration status shown on the card, in which case the immigration status field on the card will show ---

Contact WORC for questions on your immigration status

If you have any questions, you may contact WORC directly to seek further information on being confirmed or acknowledged as a Caymanian:

Why this is needed

WORC is the authority responsible for formally confirming Caymanian status for the purpose of recording immigration status. Even where a person is Caymanian, the relevant record must first be updated before a My eID card can be issued showing immigration status as Caymanian.

Where to send documents

Please email your documents to myeid@egov.ky.

To help us process your case, please include:

  • your full name

  • your My eID application reference number

  • a short note explaining that you were born in the Cayman Islands prior to 27 March 1977
