My eID - How to Verify That a Digitally Signed Document Has a Valid Digital Signature on PC and Mac

Overview

Verifying a digital signature ensures that a document is authentic and hasn’t been altered. With Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can easily check the validity of a digital signature on both PC and Mac. This allows you to quickly confirm that the signature is valid and that the document is secure.

Open the Signed PDF in Adobe Reader

1. Locate the document on your computer, right-click on it, and select Open with Adobe Reader.

2. Alternatively, launch Adobe Reader.

3. Select File, then choose Open. Navigate to the signed PDF file you want to verify, and open it.

Access the Signatures Panel

4. Once the document is open, look for the Signatures Panel on the right-hand side of the Adobe Reader window.

5. If you don’t see the panel, you can access it by clicking on View in the top menu, selecting Show/Hide, then choosing Side Panels, and finally, clicking on Signatures.

Check for Signature Verification

6. Adobe Reader automatically checks the validity of the digital signature as soon as the document is opened.

7. If the signature is valid, you’ll see a green checkmark next to the signature in the Signatures Panel. This indicates that:

- The document has not been altered after it was signed.
- The signature is from a trusted and recognized source.

Review Signature Details

8. To get more information about the signature, click on the signature details in the Signatures Panel.

9. Adobe Reader will display additional details such as:

- The Issuer of the signature certificate: Cayman Islands Government
- The Validity status of the signature.
